Analysis of the Government and Local Public Debt in Romania

Abstract: The concept of public debt is a complex one and it has been analyzed many times throughout the years but the current context influenced by the global financial and economic crisis highlights the importance of prudent public debt management. The term of public debt is based on the financial obligations of central and local public authorities towards their creditors. The article focuses in observing the evolution of total public debt and of its components in the period 2004 - August 2012.The purpose of the article is to highlight the current values of the public debt in order to show the state of the public finances of the country.
