Abstract: This paper conducts an analysis of the impact of the global economic crisis on the Romanian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and provides some relevant policy suggestions at the end. First, the paper analyzes the impact of the global economic crisis on the Romanian SMEs, focusing the discussion on the causes and resulting problems from SMEs. Secondly, this paper reviews the impact of the economic crisis on the Romanian SMEs, presenting the evolution of SME sector during the crises. Third, the paper presents the countermeasures taken by the government, focusing on its support policies for SMEs and the problems exhibited in the implementation of those policies. Finally, the author makes policy suggestions for boosting the development of SMEs.
