Abstract: Generally speaking, performance indicators, whether financial or non-financial, should provide enough information that would help an actor drive the course of an action in order to achieve its objectives and evaluate the results. Undoubtedly, financial indicators are necessary in assessing companies performance. But they are certainly not enough. Previous literature and research in the field stresses the increasing importance of several factors that affect business performance, many of them unquatitized in monetary terms. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of the non-financial indicators in performance evaluation. The paper consists of an empirical research conducted on Romanian small and medium enterprises activating in the construction sector in Dobrogea region.
