Concentration of the Banking MarketAbstract:First, in this study we try to test whether the Structure - Conduct - Performance Paradigm holds by investigating the relationship between concentration and banking system performance in Romania. We find that is a positive correlation between market concentration and performance in Romanian banking, according to the Pearson`s correlation coefficient. We observed that the competition in the Romanian banking system increases continuously in the last years, but the Romanian banking sector remain relatively concentrated. In the second part of the paper, we compared the structure of the banking market in Romania and Spain, using the Herfindahl-Hirschman and Concentration Ratio indicators for period 2005-2009. We find that the banking system in Spain is less concentrated compared with Romania and media owned by European countries
