Romania and the Assessment of its Competitiveness Level

Abstract: Competitiveness is one of the most important elements in the debates on the performance of nations, industries and companies. The examinations performed on „competitiveness? reveals that there is a vital link between „competitiveness? and the principal goals, the mission, of a nation and firm respectively, but these goals are not entirely covered by the measures used in present. The purpose of this paper is, firstly to define and explain the concept of “competitiveness”. Academic interest in the area has continuously increased as a consequence of new developments contemplating conceptualization and understanding of competitiveness taking place. Notwithstanding, authors from different disciplines offer a variation in perspective when describing the concept. Secondly the paper presents different perspectives on the possibilities to measure competitiveness. In the end, Romania is positioned on the international level of competitiveness as a question for further research.
