Abstract: The relationship between history and the translation of children’s literature refers on the one hand to the historical development of scholarly interest in the field and on the other hand to the revolutionary changes in the society’s perception of children and childhood. This paper aims at shedding some light upon both aspects with an emphasis upon the influence of politics and ideology in translating literature for children. The foregrounding idea is that any translation implies some degree of manipulation which is even greater in the case of children’s literature translation due to the didactic, ideological, moral, ethical and religious norms involved in the process.

Keywords: children’s literature; diachronic perspective; manipulation; translation strategies. (search for similar items in EconPapers)
