Abstract: At present, tourism represents an important activity for the economy of a country, being able to make a major contribution to the economic development of that country. Moreover, tourism can be considered not only an economic activity but a way and lifestyle that is aimed at the parties involved in this activity. Tourism generates benefits for all parties involved: tourists, direct service providers (the transport service providers, hoteliers, restaurant owners, entertainment, treatment, etc.), intermediaries (travel agencies) and for residents. In this paper are addressed the concepts aimed at tourism as an economic phenomenon, as well as its importance in an economy. For this, in this paper, we analyze the tourist activity in Romania, identifying the causes and factors that influenced this activity, as well as the possibilities and directions of attracting tourist flows.
