Abstract: This paper reevaluates the sustainable tourism concept, in the context of the information society and the globalization process. Thus, sustainable tourism activity in the context of the information society was characterized by a range of statistical indicators covering three pillars: the pillar of tourism activity, the environmental pillar and the pillar of the information society. Using the principal component analysis, the number of variables initially included in the analysis has been reduced to three main components: "Usage of IT technology for tourism participation" component (e-tourism), "Environmental pressures" component and the “Financial component of environment protection”. Together, the three principal components explain 90.299% of the variation in the initial set of data. The results will be used in future work to build an aggregate index of sustainable tourism in the context of the information society
