Abstract: The purpose of our present study is to investigate the concepts of power and superpower in their present day economic and political manifestation. Starting form Samuel Huntington’s assuption, according to which, the current global system is a hybrid (uni-multipolar) system, in which the U.S. are a major power, we then take a close look at the way in which the BRIC(S) countries are attempting at present to challenge this dominating position.
