Abstract: In this paper, a railway transport analysis is carried out in the Dobrogea region, one of the most important regions in Romania, but where no major investments have been made in this type of transport for a very long time. Taking into account the steps taken in the European Union to stimulate the development of railway transport, it is important to know the real situation in Dobrogea in order to propose strategic development directions, that are not on paper but are taken into account and used by the central and local authorities.
