Abstract: In the present paper we present the preoccupation of the contemporary society regarding durabledevelopment and we identify the means to increase performance and competitiveness of thecompanies in sustainable conditions, starting from the European strategies, the concept of socialresponsibility of the company and the troubling results for the mankind regarding the researchmade to measure the ecologic fingerprint as a valid instrument for calculating the impact humanshave on earth.
