Abstract: Organizational resilience refers to the firm capability to face unexpected shocks and recover after major changes in the business environment. The present paper focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic as the main external shock for the Romanian banking sector, developing a theoretical approach based on the corporate social responsibility mechanism. Starting from the stakeholder theory and the reputational implications of corporate social responsibility (CSR), the main effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for the banking institutions were analyzed. Thus, the stakeholder engagement was used as a prior feature of the resilient banks, suggesting that digital banking services have positively amplified the customer experience in terms of security, efficiency and transparency through CSR. The comparative case study of the Romanian sector leading banks explores the managerial implications of the health crisis for organizational resilience, investigating the CSR practices as response to the pandemic context.
