Abstract: For decades, brand name drugs have been a cornerstone of growth and innovation for pharmaceutical manufacturers. In recent years, however, a combination of greater demand from the public for competitively price drugs and more frequent patent expirations has set the stage for the rise of generic drugs. The emergence of generics has tilted the competitive landscape of the industry as cheaper production costs for suppliers has had a significant impact on how industry operators interact with their supply chain. The following analysis aims to examine the competitive dynamics of the pharmaceutical sector as generics continue to flood the marketplace.
