Abstract:
Abstract A well-functioning financial system can be a powerful engine for economic growth, while a fragile system can generate deep pain when it fails. Our goal as policymakers is to build a financial system that can provide core financial services in both good and bad times. We have made much progress since the Global Financial Crisis, but our work is not done. Over the past two years, I have made it a top priority to rebuild and strengthen the financial stability infrastructure at Treasury. In these remarks, I will establish why financial stability matters to American families, before turning to how our financial system has performed through its most serious tests since the Global Financial Crisis. Then, I will speak about the progress that we’ve made on our financial stability agenda and the road ahead.
