Abstract:
The low growth rate of Italy, also in international and European context, has led to compare the 50s with the last ten or fifteen. The analysis shows that, apart from the initial liberalization of international trade, the period that saw the most vigorous growth in Italy was characterized from a mixed economy, with public monopolies and dominant positions private, from a monetary and banking policy based of direct controls and exercises of individual moral suasion, all conditions previously deemed unfavorable to growth. On the contrary, at this stage the emphasis was on the model of liberal economy, with liberalization, privatization of productive enterprises and banks, policies based on incentives and market. Unfortunately, the economic science has not yet found a general paradigm that explains the wealth of nations regardless of the context and the men who animate it.
