Praesentismus. Praevalenz und Bestimmungsfaktoren unterlassener Krankmeldungen bei der Arbeit (Presenteeism. Prevalence and Determinants of Attending Work while Ill)

Abstract:
Anders als Absentismus hat Praesentismus bei der Arbeit in der bisherigen Forschung wenig Aufmerksamkeit gefunden. Im Rahmen einer Pilotstudie zur Vorbereitung eines groesseren Forschungsprojekts stellt der Beitrag Ergebnisse zu Bestimmungsfaktoren des Praesentismus vor. Dabei zeigt sich, dass Praesentismus ein weit verbreitetes Phaenomen ist und ueberdurchschnittlich oft bei unqualifizierten Taetigkeiten vorkommt (d. h. bei Taetigkeiten, die wenig Bildung erfordern) und bei unsicheren Arbeitsplaetzen (d. h. bei Arbeitsplaetzen, die ein erhoehtes Risiko von Arbeitslosigkeit und Entlassung haben). (Contrary to absenteeism, presenteeism at the workplace has not be given much attention in previous research. In a pilot study, conducted to prepare for a more ambitious research project, the article investigates the determinants of presenteeism. It can be shown that presenteeism is a widespread phenomenon and more prevalent in low-rank positions (i.e. in positions which do not afford many qualifications) and in unstable jobs (i.e. in jobs connected with a high risk of unemployment and dismissal.))
