Abstract: The paper analyses the evolution of industrial production in Romanian wood and furniture industry since 1993 to 1998 in the context of restructuring process of the large state-owned companies after 1989, presents the global indicators of the private wood sector in 1999 and constructs labour productivity indices per employee since 1996 to 1998. The paper concludes that the state should offer support to the companies in the field to upgrade their technologies and equipment in order to create products with higher value-added.
