Abstract: Against the backdrop of rapid change and technological progress, and in the context of the globalization trend of university education, new perspectives have been opened for the higher education. Thus, the educational practice was enhanced with modern methods of teachinglearning-evaluation. One of these methods is e-Learning, that refers to learning and training opportunities or educational programs provided with the help of electronic means. Currently, e-Learning has become a viable alternative to traditional education methods, so it has been adopted by many of the higher education institutions. In this context, we have chosen to address in this paper the issues related to the adoption of e-Learning in higher education, the purpose being to emphasize the role of e-Learning in Romanian higher education environment, as perceived by undergraduate and graduate students. Thus, in the first part, the paper presents the main theoretical approaches related to the use of e-Learning in higher education, in order to highlight the main opportunities and challenges that e-Learning involves. Understanding that student's perception regarding e-Learning is one of the most important steps in developing and implementing a successful e-Learning system, we conducted a research among students of The Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Results of the research, presented in the second part of the paper, have shown the favourable perception regarding e-Learning, considered by the respondents an effective learning method that contributes to the quality of higher education.
