Abstract: This article outlines an approach for developing and applying decision support systems to the formulation and evaluation ofpublic policy. Financial resource limitations represent one of the major challenges facing government throughout the remainder of this century. To meet these challenges, new management systems must be developed not only for improving governmental efficiency but also for improving the effectiveness of the decision-making process. A decision support system offers considerable promise in helping develop such policies.
