Evaluation Review, 1978, vol. 2, issue 1, 91-105

Abstract: The aim of the research was to find ways of increasing children's awareness of litter and responsibility for the environment. Using principles identified in an initial investigation, learning materials were designed to act as stimulus and support for a project based on the subject of litter and leading on to a study of wider environmental problems. The materials were evaluated in a pilot study involving, 1,139 children in primary schools in England, Scotland , and Wales . The evaluation used questionnaires, observation, inter views, and tests to assess factors such as the extent to which the materials achieved their stated aims and the comparative awareness of litter of control and experimental groups. A summary of the findings of the evaluation is given , with information on current and further research.
