Abstract:
Using Kolb's experimental learning model as a blueprint, the authors devise an active learning simulation to introduce students to general theories and concepts of international relations. Besides encompassing abstract theories and concepts, the simulation facilitates the development of critical and analytical thinking skills. Students research real political actors' roles and actively participate in managing an acute crisis in Cyprus. During the crisis, students must evaluate options, make binding decisions, and negotiate deals with one another. The authors find that students embrace the opportunity to learn in a fun, stimulating environment and learn more as a result.
