Abstract: The article examines the nature, role, place and term of detective (detective) activity, history of development, the world experience in the market of private detective activity in Ukraine. Potential options of its legalization and formalization of the detective (detective) activity in the state. The existence of a law that specifically regulates legal relationships in the field of detective work, will promote a single state policy in the detective work that will allow to carry out effective state control over the legitimate use of firearms and special means by the officers of the detective organizations, to create conditions for the development of a civilized market of services, provided by the subjects of the specified activities, to prevent the entry into the market unprepared and bad actors, protection of rights and legitimate interests of citizens.
