Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to explain the reasons for the exceptional dynamics and instability of the information technology (IT). It is argued that the main factor is the disruptive nature of the ICT development. The main factors affecting the information industry are discussed and the characteristics and specifics of disruptive innovations are analysed. The previous developments in the ICT due to disruptive innovations are described. The paper also makes an attempt to forecast the further development of ICT and therefore also the future of our civilisation.
