Abstract: The paper presents the evolution of software quality standards, starting from the first quality models developed by individual researchers. The general structure of software quality models has been presented. The first standard quality model ISO/IEC 9126:1991 has been described, then its modifications from 2001, ending with contemporary quality model described in ISO/IEC 25010:2011. The differences between subsequent versions of the model have been indicated. The disadvantages of the evolution’s direction have been discussed.
