Collegium of Economic Analysis Annals, 2015, issue 39, 151-166

Abstract: Main aim of this paper is to present the evidence concerning the link between offshoring and skilled-unskilled wage gap in a group of selected European Union countries (7 countries with shares in overall EU offshoring above 5%: DEU, GBR, ITA, FRA, NLD, ESP BEL). The panel is composed of 33 sectors (including manufacturing and services), observed in the period 1995–2009. Input-output tables are used to measure the intensity offshoring in single sectors, considered as one of the factors influencing wage gap between skilled and unskilled workers. The results of the estimated model imply that indeed such a mechanism is plausible, but the magnitude of the estimated coefficients is small and the effect of offshoring on wages takes place mainly in the services sectors.
