Abstract: In this paper the structure of the Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose for Household Budget Surveys (COICOP/HBS) is analysed and its information components are distinguished. The methodology of classification and categorisation of household expenditure on information goods and services is developed. Based on this methodology, household expenditure on the so called information components in Poland (2003–2012) is evaluated.
