Abstract: The first part of this paper presents an outline of the concept of sustainable development and its importance in the European Union’s socio-economic development strategy. The sustainable development indicator system, adopted in the European Union, is then discussed. On this basis, using Eurostat database, an analysis of data characterizing the state of sustainable development in the Member States, including Poland, was carried out. This assessment has enabled to rank Member Countries in terms of the level of implementation of sustainable development.
