Abstract:
This article presents the risks associated with all business ventures, especially start-ups. The notion of a start-up has been defined and its specific features have been characterized. The most important methods of risk estimation in undertaking such projects have been mentioned. The article focuses on four risk estimation methods, namely: NPV, IRR, DTA and DEA. It also uses information from representatives of the start-up environment. The key to the choice of methods was the usability and ease of use of these models with respect to the reliability of their results. The essence of the use of risk assessment methods is the knowledge and ability to use or interpret the results of such attempts. In practice, initiators of start-up undertakings have no or limited knowledge in this respect. On the other hand, using the knowledge and support of specialists and experts generates additional costs associated with their work, which is especially felt at the beginning of business investment. Therefore, two relatively simple and easy-to-use methods, namely NPV and IRR, and more complex DTA and DEA methods have been discussed in this paper. They show more detailed possibilities for conducting such a project in the future. Each of these methods is suitable for risk assessment in relation to specific business activities including start-ups.
