Abstract:
In view of costs of delayed entrances we try to chase up determinants of the course of recruitment processes. We use data of the annual German Job Vacancy Survey (2004 to 2007) of the Institute for Employment Research in order to identify a disjoint hiring typology. By using certain points in time of the staffing process, we identify three different types of recruiting processes. Those three types are evaluated concerning their differences to a simple model of search duration. We find that the evaluation of the types leads to more precise results than the analysis of the search duration only. By using multinomial logistic regressions we analyze these types of hiring processes on predicting characteristics e.g. of the position to be filled and of the searching firm. We find delayed entrances more often in the manufacturing industry and more often connected to high requirements and difficult working conditions. We also find a relationship between extended personnel search and employers willingness to pay higher wages or to accept unemployed candidates. Copyright Springer 2013
