Abstract: Abstract Banks and venture capitalists enable the financing of entrepreneurial firms and thereby promote regional development. The effectiveness of these two very different financing arrangements depends on the manner in which they are delivered, and the institutional conditions of the regions in which they operate. This editorial introduces the issues surrounding these topics, overviews selected papers in the entrepreneurial finance literature, and summarizes the special issue papers and their contributions to the literature. We further provide avenues for relevant and fruitful further research.
