Abstract:
The production of customer specific products leads to a heterogeneous production plan and irregular capacity utilization. The order-selection process determines this capacity utilization. Hence a sophisticated decision support needs to be incorporated. Revenue management methods provide this decision support in service industries practice. This contribution gives a brief overview of existent revenue management methods and their applicability to make-to-order production systems. A case study from the iron and steel industry is provided to illustrate the relevance of the approach to real-world production systems. Copyright Physica-Verlag 2005
