Abstract: Abstract Manufacturing firms actively seek digital technology to enhance innovation and improve their sustainable performance in a turbulent environment. The moderated mediation effect between digital technology adoption (DTA) and sustainable performance (SP) is investigated. The survey of Chinese listed manufacturing firms shows that the DTA impacts SP influencing through technological innovation (TI) and business model innovation (BMI). Furthermore, the results suggest that environmental regulation (ER) has a U-shaped moderating role on the relationship between DTA and TI, while government subsidy (GS) shows a positive moderating effect. From the integrating view of technological affordance and institutional affordance, our findings extend the affordance and institutional theory. The conclusion also provides practical insights for the managers and the government in achieving sustainable development.
