Abstract: Abstract The purpose of the study is to empirically test the thesis that offshore investments are unproductive. The macro- and microeconomic approaches to the identification of offshore investments are highlighted. Based on the macroeconomic approach, a statistical pattern of offshore FDI inward stock in the Russian economy is compiled. Multiple regression analysis of panel data showed that offshore investments are not related to foreign trade.
