Abstract: Abstract The article, using the example of the Far East, examines issues of determining promising areas of development of geostrategic regions, which are positioned as priorities in spatial development strategies. The experience of selecting and implementing priorities for the development of the Far East in strategic planning documents is analyzed. The results of the implementation of the “pivot to the East” policy and the spatial development strategy show that the measures taken had a significant impact on the development of the Far Eastern regions, but did not allow the planned target indicators to be achieved. The article presents assessments of the use of preferential economic regimes as a mechanism for regional development.
