Abstract:
This study examines the specific capabilities that drive SME export intensity during COVID-19, highlighting the role of digital platforms. Drawing on a survey of 174 SME exporters in Thailand, the findings reveal that innovation, export persistence, and knowledge acquisition significantly enhance export intensity. However, intensive usage of digital platforms diminishes export intensity. This study contributes theoretically by integrating the capabilities-based view with contingency theory, revealing that specific capabilities enhance export intensity differently based on market uncertainty. Thus, learning to leverage digital platforms alongside core value capabilities, and adapting each capability based on the degree of market uncertainty, is crucial.
