Abstract:
Risk science and risk policy are different perspectives, which ideally help and reinforce one another. This commentary addresses the policy perspective with three propositions and is intended as a starting point for discussion. The first proposition is the need to introduce risk policy to the larger context of public values policy. The second proposition is the need for risk policy to be adaptive and open to new insights, while remaining risk and science based. The third proposition is the need to broaden the context of risk communication. The Netherlands intends to deal with these notions in Risk Policy Principles specific for the energy transition.
