Abstract:
The article provides a commentary on Osman’s article ‘Psychological Harm: What is it and how does it apply to consumer products with internet connectivity?’ In response, a definition of psychological harm is proposed, and measurement problems are discussed. The article proposes that susceptibility to psychological harm is measurable, but concludes that developing a metric of psychological harm itself is fraught with problems and may not be worthwhile. Policy recommendations are made for the most efficient and effective way to mitigate psychological harm from connected and smart technology.
