How to integrate gender budgeting in the public agenda: insights from an Italian local government

Abstract: This article presents guidance for public managers and policy-makers who are voluntarily developing gender budgeting (GB) at a local level. The article provides useful insights to local government managers on how to develop a GB initiative and what factors determine full integration into the public budget. Local policy-makers should consider gender as a strategic value to be integrated in all of the programmes and activities of a public sector organization, and they need to involve stakeholders in GB implementation and use.
