Abstract: The last few years have marked many theoretical and practical contributions to the field of social innovation and social enterprise. However, most of these contributions lack analysis linking these subjects. This editorial article, written for the JEOD special issue Social innovation in social enterprises: what is going on?, aims to fill the gap. The issue presents some case studies on social innovation in social enterprises, as well as theoretical implications and key aspects. The editorial concludes by presenting a summary of each article.
