The Effect of Managed Care Penetration on Treatment Patterns

John Cawley

The Journal of Legal Studies, 2001, vol. 30, issue 2, 743-51

Abstract: "Managed Care, Health Care Quality, and Regulation," written by Laurence Baker and Mark McClellan and presented at the University of Chicago Law School-Medical School conference The Regulation of Managed Care Organizations and the Doctor-Patient Relationship, is an important paper that contributes to our understanding of the effect of managed care penetration on diagnosis rates and treatment patterns. This comment outlines the approach of Baker and McClellan, discusses issues of methodology in that paper, and offers suggestions for future research. Copyright 2001 by the University of Chicago.
