Abstract: Recent changes in the government's approach to agricultural development are having substantial effects on China's output of agricultural products. As an experiment, Integrated Agro-Industrial-Commercial Enterprises were formed to integrate input supply and commodity processing|marketing with agricultural production. These market-oriented organizations represent a movement toward more decentralization of decision making. They have a great deal of autonomy in forming business relationships, making investment and production decisions, and distributing profits. The experiment, which has been expanded to more than 200 integrated organizations, is working as output, profits, and worker incomes continue to improve.
