From Tunnel‐Vision to Panoramic Fog—An Essay on How Philosophy Can Help us Better Understand Consumers' Pursuit of Ethical Food

Christopher M. Drohan and Bailey Norwood ()

Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, 2020, vol. 42, issue 3, 421-433

Abstract: Panoramic fog—(noun) the state in which a well‐intentioned individual seeks to understand how their actions impact the world, but the difficulty of doing so induces them to seek comfort in convenient answers, leading them to spend more time reinforcing their acceptance of those answers than questioning them. In the process, they create an irreconcilable gulf between them and persons who accept other convenient answers.
