Abstract: Economics research in virtual worlds presents opportunities that go far beyond what is possible in the laboratory but also presents new challenges and perils. The purpose of this article is to introduce the works in this special issue, each of which addresses different aspects of virtual world research in terms of new opportunities and insights as well as new sets of concerns.
