Abstract:
There is a dearth of management research addressing the proactive management of technological discontinuities. Drawing on diverse literatures, we develop a multi-disciplinary model of organisational responses to technological discontinuities and develop exemplary propositions to guide future research. Specifically, we suggest industry incumbents use the media to praise or attack the legitimacy of technological innovations that potentially enhance or destroy prevailing competencies.
