Abstract: As a practical digital transformation case, this study focuses on an innovation ecosystem that aims tot the business ecosystem in the smart building context. The purpose is to explore digital transformation within an innovation ecosystem, specifically in the context of an emerging digital platform. To study the transformation from the inside out, the study is based on the design science approach, where researchers and practitioners engage in a joint problem-solving process. The holistic approach to digitalisation guided us to consider the process at three levels: (1) strategic decision making and steering level (constructs), (2) coinnovation and coordination level (model) and (3) joint process of the production level (methods). The paper analyses the holistic change process and defines the key elements at each level.
