Abstract: We study the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian$H =p_x^2 +p_y^2 +x^4 +y^4 +\alpha x^2 y^2$in the classically chaotic regime. It is shown that the overlap of wavefunctions at neighboring α values provides a sensitive measure to demonstrate the onset of chaos in quantum systems.
