Abstract: It is shown that the parallel Bak–Sneppen model proposed by Sornette and Dornic can be used as an extinction model. Yet, to include the environmental effect, it may be better to augment it by a coherent noise rule. The resulting model simulates both the evolution and the extinction phenomena.
