Abstract: We present a detailed Monte Carlo study of the effects of biaxiality on the textures of nematic films with specific homeotropic boundary conditions. We have used the Straley generalized Hamiltonian for a wide range of biaxial parameters and the differences obtained in the polarized microscopy images are analyzed for the various cases.
