Die Bedeutung von Patentschutz für den Technologietransfer in Entwicklungsländer: Erfahrungen der chemischen Industrie in Südkorea, Malaysia und Chile im Vergleich

Thomas Röhm

in ifo Beiträge zur Wirtschaftsforschung from ifo Institute - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich

Abstract: This study was written by Thomas Röhm as Ifo researcher in the department International Institutional Comparisons as submitted as a dissertation in December 2002. The importance of patent protection for the technology transfer of industrial and developing countries is the subject of this study. For technological change in developing countries, technology transfer has a high importance, but its exact determinants have not yet been adequately examined from an empirical perspective. The analyses are based on an evaluation of experiences in the chemical industries in South Korea, Malaysia and Chile. On the basis of a comprehensive literature analysis and considering the sector and country-specific factors, hypotheses are formulated that were examined by means of a detailed survey of more than 100 multinational companies.
