Abstract:
This study is based on an expertise for the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in co-operation with the Fraunhofer Institute’s Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) In Karlsruhe. The study focuses on German mechanical engineering and its specific, traditional structures in light of its integration into the deepening international division of labour and the increasing diffusion of information and communication technologies in the industry and the economy as a whole. The study methodology includes an enterprise survey of the employment of I&C technologies in product design and the production control that is carried out regularly by ISI.
